Yesterday, a truck driving across Coon Key Bridge lost control and plummeted to the water below. The driver suffered moderate injuries as paramedics had to lift him out of the water and off of the overturned truck.
The incident brought all traffic across the bridge to a halt as the John Ringling Causeway bridge and the Coon Key Bridge were closed for several hours while crews worked to remove the truck from the water. The Sarasota County Fire Department said they are also working diligently to minimize the amount of diesel gasoline lost in the water.
Trucking accidents often times are extremely dangerous considering the size of the vehicles involved. When driving around large vehicles remember to be extra cautious, give them the space they need to operate, and always try to remain visible to the driver at all times.
